David was just 17 when he decided that he wanted to sell real estate. In 2005 he started his career at LJ Hooker in Palmerston North, which good luck would have it, happened to be the number one office of 750 in the Australasian group. He quickly achieved recognition in their top 10% performance group, their youngest member ever. His experience selling in an aggressive local market growth cycle and the subsequent vicious slump gives him great empathy for the difficulties and opportunities that salespeople encounter in all stages of their work. When asked to speak at a National Sales Summit, David got a taste of sharing what he had learned and decided to pursue it professionally.
Taking the opportunity to work as the company trainer for Barfoot and Thompson in Auckland, enabled David to follow his calling. He thrived in the sweet spot of observing, distilling, and then sharing ideas and methods for success in the many different facets of Real Estate work.
David especially enjoyed his work with new entrants, providing foundational training for more than 300 salespeople and evolving an industry leading recruitment and training program. He was also called upon to consult internally in the crossover space of IT, Marketing, and Training, combining his experience in these areas to help make a real difference in strategy and innovation.
In 2017 he took on the challenge of leading his own sales team at the high performing Barfoot & Thompson Greenlane office. In the two years of his tenure, it was ranked #4 and #3 office out of 70 branches. The diverse salesforce handled a wide range of property and continued to dominate the local market throughout legislative and market changes.
